How to Install Bathroom Medicine Cabinets
72Changing your bathroom medicine cabinet is an easy way to update or change the look of your bathroom. You do not have to be a handy man to successfully install a new medicine cabinet in your bathroom. In fact, almost anyone can do it and it can be done in a matter of minutes.
The Installation
Once you have purchased your new bathroom vanity medicine cabinet and have brought it home you can begin the installation process. You should have removed the old medicine cabinet and did any necessary prep work, like repainting or filling in holes. You will also need to gather your tools. For the installation of your bathroom medicine cabinet you need to have a pencil for marking, a level, a screwdriver, a stud finder and wood screws.
The first step in the process involves finding a stud in the wall in the area in which you want to hang the bathroom medicine cabinet. It is ideal to find a stud where you can anchor the cabinet to give it stability. If you are unable to find a stud in the area in which you want to hang the cabinet or there is no stud that will allow you to hang the medicine cabinet in the way you desire then you will need to consider using toggle blots to give the cabinet security. You should mark the stud so you know where it is.
Now you can move on to marking where the cabinet will hang. You should have someone help you by holding the medicine cabinet in the desired spot on the wall. Check it with the level to ensure that it is straight. Mark the top and bottom of the cabinet.
Most medicine cabinets have pre-drilled holes and you can open up the cabinet and mark the holes. This will allow you to know exactly where to put the nails or screws you will be using. If there are not pre-drilled holes you will need to do that now. You should always have anchors at each corner for maximum stability. Even with pre-drilled holes you may need to add more holes. Make sure that most of the screws will fall on the stud you had marked earlier.
You can now install the wood screws in the places where you have marked on the wall. You want to tighten them almost all the way. You can hang the cabinet up and check to ensure it is level. Once you are happy with the placement you can tighten the screws all the way and your medicine cabinet installation is complete.
Safety and Tips
To ensure that your vanity medicine cabinet is safe and secure you need to make sure that you are careful about finding a stud or using anchor screws. This is important because without proper anchoring the cabinet could easily fall off the wall. You should also do a check by lightly shaking the cabinet once it is hung to ensure it is tight and secure on the wall.
Make sure that you mark accurately. Making proper markings will really make the process much easier. Without accurate marking you could end up having to hang and re-hang the medicine cabinet over and over to get it level. Making a few checks throughout the process will save you a lot of time and annoyance in the long run.
